A native of San Angelo, Texas, Brandie Phillips began studying the violin at the age of four. A passionate orchestral violinist, she has performed in Carnegie Hall and has performed as soloist with such orchestras as the Lynn University Philharmonic Orchestra, the SMU Meadows Symphony Orchestra, the National Repertory Orchestra, and the San Angelo Symphony Orchestra. Other opportunities have allowed her to perform as soloist and orchestral violinist in various venues around the US and Europe.
Brandie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. She earned a Master’s Degree in Violin Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, under the tutelage of recording artist Chee-Yun Kim and Diane Kitzman.
Recently, Brandie made the decision to pursue her passion as an avid motivator and educator of music. She was previously the assistant orchestra director at Carpenter Middle School and Armstrong Middle school, and is in her second year at Otto Middle School as Director of Orchestras. In addition, she previously held the title of Assistant Concertmaster of The Dallas Opera Orchestra from 2013-2019, and also frequently performs with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
Ben Mitchell graduated in December 2018 with a bachelors in music education from Stephen F. Austin State University. He has been playing double bass for 12 years, studying with many of Texas’ finest double bass pedagogues such as Jack Unzicker, Gudrun Raschen, Jeff Bradetich, and Carlos Gaviria.
Ben was the principal Double Bass in the Longview symphony from 2014-2018, and now regularly substitutes with orchestras in the DFW area. He also earned a position in the Round Top Music Festival orchestra in 2016 and 2017. During his time at SFA, he taught a local after-school orchestra program in Central Heights ISD and acted as a sectional coach and regional judge for contests in the East Texas area.
